Greetings from Corvallis! Before I get into any details, let me remind everyone that you're constantly going to be wanting to scroll down to the other posts. It's very likely that you'll miss a post or two in between checking since we'll be having both teams updating our Grace blog! So don't just read the top post and end up missing out on some important updates from the other team!
Well, we arrived in Corvallis around 5:30 P.M. local time. Pastor Matt Leopald was here to greet us and show us where in the church we'll be staying this week. Brad and Beth, who are a married couple who lead the youth here at Corvallis Community Church, came a few minutes later to greet us as well.
After going out for dinner as a team, we came back to the church for what we thought would be a low key night. However, God had other plans. While 8 members of the team went to Brad and Beth's for showers, and a great chance to get to know their family better (they have 4 kids, ranging from age 18 to age 7), the rest stayed at the church and decided to walk around town. After travelling just a block, they happened to stumble upon a large music festival going on tonight. It's called Rock the Bitterroot (the name of the valley here), and tonight was the one night a year it happens here in Corvallis. There, our students met many teenagers and were able to get to know quite a few of them. We let them know we'd be in town this week and playing at the field every evening starting tomorrow. It was pretty amazing the way God just opened such a huge door on the first night, when we were planning on just spending a low key night! Please pray that several of the teens we met tonight will feel led to come tomorrow to the field, so we can continue to get to know them.
Our first family time was a real good time. The Grace and Zion Lutheren students that make up this team haven't had a ton of time to get to know each other, but they have grown fairly close pretty quick. Please pray that this continues! Team unity is so important in the ability we'll have to show God's love to this town. Also pray that our Grace students here will be able to keep our focus on our mission here while still being in prayer for our friends in Ronan. It's a delicate balance to not be distracted and yet still be mindful and in prayer for our brothers/sister in Ronan.
We do have wireless here at the church. So hopefully this will lead to many opportunities to give updates and have some students give updates. Tonight it's just me, but that's because it's already time for bed. Pray for Tiffany as she'll be doing a special music piece for the church in the morning. Thanks already for all the prayers thus far. It's been a great start to this mission, but it's only the beginning, so keep parying!
God Bless,
Nathan
