The second spring retreat (at Lake Retreat) followed a month of travel to do one day training events with groups in Escondido, Colorado Springs, Glenwood Springs and Spring, Texas (wow, that is a lot of "spring").
All of the training events and retreats went really well. They all had a different personality, but each seemed to accomplish to goal of training the students and staff.
Here is what I found unique about each:
April 3-4, Lake Retreat with 6 western, WA churches: This group seemed to come in with a heart for worship, they could sing!
April 19, Escondido, CA: This team seemed to ask the most questions and very well may have come out with the most changed hearts toward the mission (I don't think they really knew what they had signed up for, but by the end, they were so stoked).
April 25, Colorado Springs, CO: The two churches from C. Springs mingled well and created the opportunity for us to really practice what it'll be like at the parks on the mission trip.
April 26, Glenwood Springs, CO: This was the shortest training time (a last minute addition to the trips this summer), the blitz trip seemed to spark the students and give them some momentum as they start training for the late summer trip.
May 3, Spring, TX: This group may very well have been the group that I laughed the most with. They are training for Idaho, so it was fun to talk about the cultural differences/similarities of TX and ID!
May 8-9, The remaining 12 churches from Western WA came to Lake Retreat: I would say this group has reacted the most to the FoF Challenge and are living it out in person on the web! Check out my latest report on the FoF here!
Here are a few pics of the training events/retreats.
Hope you'll check out the other blogs while you're here and pray for the teams living out the mission now and preparing for their mission experience this summer!
Grace,
Brian
Hello friends of Youthmark! This is the Youthmark Staff Blog. We are a unique team with nearly 50 years combined Youth Ministry experience (but can you guess which one is the oldest?).
Brian Aaby (center) is the Founder and President of Youthmark. He will blog about all things Youthmark.
Kirk Petersen (right) is a Regional Director over Oregon and SW Washington. Kirk will be leading several of the Launches and will blog about some of the "coaching" he gets to do in preparing leaders for these trips and living out mission at home.
Aaron Bauer (left) is a Youthmark Mission Consultant and a live-in-the-flesh Youth Pastor. Aaron gives us a strong "on the ground" presence and can blog about how missionship is lived out before, during and after a trip.
